I had so much fun planning my mom’s 70th Birthday, so I thought I would share my ideas and hopefully inspire you if you are planning a 70th for your mom as well!
In terms of the venue, we were able to use the backyard of her sister’s house. The only downside is we had no tents available in case it rained. It’s a tough call to have an outdoor event as there is no guarantee on the weather, even in the summer time.
We did not have a back up plan in terms of the weather and it did start to rain and we had to move it indoors which of course, was not ideal. Please keep that in mind when planning an event outdoors.
Guest Tables
We had tables and chairs donated to us and I rented some very simple linens for the tables. A white table cloth and a damask table runner. I also added some satin chair sashes as well.
Place Settings
As far as place settings go, I decided to use what I had on hand. This theme was a similar theme to my wedding and I decided to use items I had kept from my wedding to help eleviate costs.
- I used a simple silver charger, a paper plate, napkins, and I placed the chocolate bar favor over the napkin.
- I also added a plastic silver wine goblet.
- I also had water bottle labels applied to the water bottles for an extra detail for the decor.
Guest Favors
My other favourite way to make favors is to print out the Hershey kisses labels as well. I purchased a digital download from ETSY personalized with my mom’s name for the decor. Just adds a cute decorative touch to the table as well.
- I love making the Hershey bars with labels for the guest favors. I purchased the digital file off of ETSY.
- The seller fills in the personalization and sends you a link to send to your printers.
- I opted to have them printed out on glossy shiny paper and then had the printers cut out each wrapper for me.
- I then assembled them myself on the chocolate bar and used hot glue to glue the wrappers down over the original wrapping.
They are so easy to make and who doesn’t love chocolate?!
Head Table
In this case, I added a Head Table ; for my mom and her immediate family to sit at. This is definitely not necessary but I love to dress up the Head Table with extra special decorations.
Centerpieces
I decided on a very simple centerpiece. A square vase I had on hand that I purchased at Michaels with satin ribbon hot glued on the outside and some very simple roses I purchased at Costco.
Water Bottles
Wine Bottles
I also had wine bottle labels printed off as well and I love the extra special detail it gives the table.
DIY Signage
I also had a simple Welcome Sign made as well. A simple printing off at the printers and I used a frame I already had on hand.
I purchased from ETSY; a “party package” which is delivered electronically.
All of the items in the package are personalized for your event and you print out and use the items you wish to use.
Buffet Table
A simple buffet table was used. I used the rental white table cloth and to add to the theme, I added a plastic damask table cloth on top. Printed off a simple sign for a frame and we had a great looking buffet table.
Punch Station
A very simple round table was used and a over sized round tablecloth. I bunched it up underneath and added a black sash to give it a touch of elegance.
Gift Table
I also created a Gift Table in the exact same way. I printed off a Thank You Sign for the table as well.
Also added a display with a few photos from my mom’s life to the foam board and displayed it at this table.
Candy Table
I also used a small side table and added a pretty crochet table cloth with a black chair sash as well. Added a few vases with candies for a small candy bar.
Thank You Table
The card and gift table was also a simple set up with a round table, white round table cloth and a black sash tied around. I also printed off a beautiful Thank You sign and put in the frame to display on the table.
Cake Table
I did a really fun Cake Table!
- I made all of the dessert items myself. I had cupcakes, cake pops and the cake.
- I decorated the cupcakes by adding cupcake toppers.
- Here is my blog post where I give the recipe for my cupcakes and frosting.
- The toppers were part of the digital party package I had purchased and all I had to do was print them off at the printers, cut them out and assemble.
I also made cake pops and added small silver neoprils and pink fondant flowers. I topped them off with cut out tags as well to add to the decor.
It was a beautiful event and I was of the mind to use whatever I could that I had on hand or to repurpose it for the event. Adding inexpensive decor like the printed signs and labels added just the right touches!
