I was so very excited to transform this sweet little dresser I found on the Marketplace! My goal with this piece was to use the sweet transfers I had purchased a while back for this cute little dresser. The dresser wasn’t in bad shape but definitely needed some TLC.
Steps I took:
- I began by washing down the entire piece and making sure it was dry. I also removed all of the hardware and removed all of the drawers for ease of painting.
- The top of the piece was not in great shape and had some bubbling of old paint and scratches. I always decide up front how much time I am going to spend trying to revamp the piece.
- This one was not worth my time to try and strip the top and re paint so I opted just to clean it as best I could and paint the whole piece with cream colored chalk paint. I used Rustoleum brand chalk paint in Chiffon Cream HERE.
- I washed and cleaned the hardware as best I could with soap and water. I have painted hardware in the past, but the hardware on this piece was actually in good shape and was very pretty, so I decided to leave it as is.
- I painted the piece with 3 coats of the chalk paint. Leaving it to dry in between coats and I always make sure to put a garbage bag or rags underneath whatever I am painting.
Now to the fun part! I love using transfers when I am chalk painting furniture. It absolutely brings the piece to life and completely transforms! I usually cut out my transfer into smaller pieces so they are easier to adhere to the surface. Using one big large transfer is very difficult to position and lay properly in order to transfer it onto the furniture. I found the most adorable “baby” transfer on Amazon HERE.
I like to cut the pieces and then put them on the furniture and just tape with painters tape and step back to see where the pieces are best applied. One thing to note about furniture transfers, once they are applied, they cannot be removed and put in another spot. You are definitely committed once you start transferring. The other aspect with these transfers is that they are very delicate. I have ruined a transfer on occasion by not being careful when applying the transfer.
Painting over the top part of the dresser, I was able to hide some of the buckling and bubbling from the age of the piece. Sometimes it is just not practical to try and repair.
Voila, isn’t she a beauty! The front turned out so cute and I was so happy with the results! This piece didn’t take long to sell at all!
The view from the right side. I was so eager to take a photo, I didn’t wait for the paint to dry !
This is the view from the other side of the dresser. Just the cutest little animals on this dresser. The bunny is just adorable!
One lucky little girl received this beautiful dresser!
