70th Birthday Party Decor Ideas
Our family recently celebrated my mother in law’s 70th birthday! What a milestone in a person’s life! I had the pleasure of planning and decorating the event. I wanted to give you some easy and simple tips for a beautiful event without having to spend much money on decor. I want to share with you quick tips on how to organize a 70th birthday party decor on a budget.

Tip 1
Table Centerpiece
This was achieved by using Dollar Tree items: mirror, mason jar, a little ribbon, and a silk flower. I used my Cricut machine to cut out the paper centerpieces that read “70 & Fabulous”. It does not need to be expensive to be elegant.
Tip 2
Invitation
I always go online and make a personalized invitation! This is free to do! All you need to do is Google “free online invitation” and there will be several results that will pop up for you. I always include the invite on my Facebook Event page or send it by text and or messenger to my guests.
Tip 3
Table Settings
Here are some photos of the table setting. I always try to make the prettiest table settings without spending too much. It is not necessary! I have stocked up on dollar store chargers (the silver plates under the paper plates); it just gives the paper plate a wow factor at the table. In addition, I always use plastic forks and knives and I usually wash them and keep for the next party. I then purchased the paper plates, plastic table cloths, napkins, table confetti for the table presentation from Party City. Lastly, I always buy a package of table confetti, preferably in the party theme. I like to sprinkle the confetti all over the table, it just adds a simple touch of the decor for very little cost.
Tip 4
Paper Decor Kits
When it comes to the paper decor, you really can’t beat the convenience and low cost when purchasing these paper kits from places like Party City (or any of the party supply stores in your area). A package of paper decor goes a long way! If you need to cut the budget even further, there is a very nice selection at many of the Dollar stores nowadays as well. I like to look in the “wedding” section of the Dollar Tree to find elegant less expensive paper products.
Looks so festive to hang decor from the ceiling. I usually use thumbtacks to achieve this.
Tip 5
Extra Special Touches for 70th Birthday Party Decor
In terms of extra special touches, these are a few ideas for you that I did for my mother in law. I found a gold glitter “A” and thought it was a nice touch as her first name is “Alicia”. I also found two gold glitter numbers 7-0 to decorate her gift table. I printed out a simple free sign off of Pinterest and put it in a frame I had hanging around my house. I also used an inexpensive frame I had in my home and printed off a photo of her in her younger years and placed it in the frame for the table. At the end of the party, I gave it to her as a gift as well as the letter “A”.
I found a small pillow in my home and decided to make her a fun pillow with my Cricut machine and my Cricut Easy Press! So fun, inexpensive and easy and she loved her pillow!
Tip 6
Cupcakes
I love baking! I usually bake cupcakes for the occasion as they are fast and easy. Check out my blog post on how I make my cupcakes!
In order to make the cupcake toppers, I went on Google and found free 70 designs I could cut out on my Cricut to make as toppers for her cupcakes. I used heavy card stock paper and hot glued the toppers to cake pop sticks you can find at your local craft store. It dresses up the cupcakes for very little expense.
I used this little vintage tea cart to use as a cupcake table. Easy to decorate with some table confetti. I also purchased an inexpensive picture frame and put a photo of the birthday lady inside it which adds a personal touch to the table. I also like to take ribbons I have on hand an decorate the cake server and the cupcake display.
Tip 7
Cake
I had a very simple vanilla cake made with simple white fondant and silver dragees put in the design on the fondant. Very simple, elegant and inexpensive. To dress up the cake, I cut out a cake topper with glitter cardstock on my Cricut using a design I purchased from Etsy and simply hot glued it to a stick and stuck in the middle of the cake. I also had a nice cake stand that I keep for my parties on hand. Voila! Beautiful!
Tip 9
Refreshments
I usually always bring out my beautiful glass dispenser and fill it with some sort of juice or punch and I always decorate it with a simple ribbon and cut out I make with my Cricut. So simple and inexpensive as I got the ribbon from the Dollar Tree and I had some spare cardstock on hand.
Tip 10
Party Signage
I also found this cute blank sign at Party City and cut out the same design on my Cricut with some scrap gold vinyl I had on hand. Made a beautiful sign for the table.
The party turned out beautiful and elegant and I was able to keep to a very tight budget. I hope you enjoyed my tips for 70th Birthday Party Decor!

Thank you for these tips! I like the idea of creating party signage as decorations because it adds more emphasis to the party. Do you also suggest printing large event graphics for celebrations like these birthdays?
