Let’s start out by explaining “What is a Cricut Cake”?
What is a Cricut Cake?
A Cricut Cake is an amazing machine! If you love baking and decorating, it is such a fun machine!
There is a bit of a learning curve, or let’s just say, there was for me! I purchased the Cricut Cake Mini on the Buy and Sell second hand. You must know that Cricut does not make these machines anymore sadly, but there are plenty of people selling their Cricut Cake machines!
The reason there is a learning curve on this machine is that you need to use a Cricut cartridge to run the machine. Nowadays when we buy a new Cricut machine, it no longer supports machines that use the cartridges. I never used the old machines such as a “Cricut Expression” that used cartridges. If you have used the old machines, you may find using this machine much easier than I did !
You will need to purchase the cartridges separate from the machine. I only purchased 2 of the Cricut Cake ones but if you have old cartridges, any cartridge will work in the machine! I purchased “Cake Basics” and “Elegant Cakes” cartridges as you can see from the photos.
What is included with the Cricut Cake?
What is included with the Cricut Cake Mini? I can only speak of the Mini machine. I also love this one as it is smaller and it’s definitely big enough for the small projects I do. It takes up less space and then I was able to try the machine to see if I really liked it, which I do !
The Cricut Mini machine includes:
- the Mini machine sized at 6″x12″
- Food safe cutting mat
- Cricut cake Basics cartridge
- Stainless steel cutting blade
- Power adapter
- Cartridge skirt
- Silicone keypad cover
- Cartridge port cover
- Stainless steel blade basket
- 1 cleaning brush
Cricut Cake Decorating Machine
The Cricut Cake is a Cricut machine for cake decorating! Be prepared for your life to get easier and for your cakes and cupcakes to look amazing !
Cricut Cake decorating is just so much fun and yes there is a bit of a learning curve and some trial and error, but that is what I am here for!
Cricut Cake Ideas
There was some trial and error for me when deciding what product to use in the machine! The machine has a blade and it needs to cut through the product that you plan to use. I tried gumpaste with this project and it turned out amazing. I also tried fondant and it did not work as good for me! The reason why is that the product you choose must be firm enough to withstand the blade cutting through it without tearing it. It cannot be a soft product so I would never recommend home made marshmellow fondant for instance.
Baby Shower Cupcake Toppers
I had so much fun making these baby shower cupcake toppers! I used the Cake Basics cartridge and used the image called “It’s a Boy”. This was so fun as all of the letters were connected and designed already and all I had to do was choose the image I wanted to cut!
Steps to Make the Cupcake Toppers
- I would recommend reading the user manual to prepare your machine for cutting. You will want to turn it on, place the cartridge in the machine and use the keypad on the top to select the design you will be wanting to cut.
- I started by rolling out my gumpaste and then I made sure I used CRISCO shortening on my food safe mat and then placed the gumpaste on the mat so the gumpaste did not stick.
- I then selected the design and hit “cut” on the keypad and watched the machine do its work!
- I started with round circles I cut which is the base for the cut out design to lay on.
- I put paper towel down on a cookie sheet and laid my rounds out to dry.
- I then added the “It’s a Boy” cutouts to the top of the rounds
- I baked the cupcakes in the blue cupcake cylinders I found at my local dollar store
- I frosted the tops with buttercream
- I then added the rounds to the tops of the cupcakes
I have a post where I explain how I make my cupcakes and frosting if you would like to refer to how I do that !
I hope you like how the cupcakes turned out! I was so excited to use my machine for this project and was very happy with how the cupcakes turned out!
