Chalk Painted China Cabinet to TV Stand Makeover

June 3, 2024 · Furniture Refinishing

I bought his old dining room buffet for a really good deal on the Buy and Sell page and I knew instantly I didn’t want to use it as a buffet.

Definitely had other plans in mind and I thought this would be great as a TV stand in my craft studio.  Love the closed door storage too! If I can hide my mess, I will !

Before

One of the great things about this piece was that although it is vintage, it is a solid wood piece and was perfect as far as not needing any repairs or work to be done to it.  Yay, win-win!

I knew I wanted to paint the top a light pink and the bottom in cream, and although the wood is not super dark, it is dark enough that I would need to scuff it up in order for the paint to adhere better.  This piece was quite shiny.

I used my Ryobi sander for a quick sanding job.  I made sure I used a light sanding circle for this.  No need to sand off what is not necessary.  Just a quick light sanding in order to get the shiny bits off.

I opted not to go with using a primer in this case.  I am going from a darker wood to a lighter color but in this case, I didn’t think I had to add that step.

I started right into painting the bottom portion with Rustoleum Chalked chiffon cream color.  I painted 3 coats in total.

One thing I like to do when painting out my pieces is turn it upside down to better be able to paint out the legs, especially if I am not in a garage.  In this case, I painted my piece in the bedroom I used for my craft room.

Next I started on the top of the cabinet and went with the pink I painted my big hutch that I converted to my paint storage.  Its Rustoleum Chalked paint in the color Blush Pink.

Have a look here to see the transformation of my big two piece china hutch!

After the coats are applied and thoroughly dried, its now the fun part!  Adding the crystal faux knobs.  It just adds such a touch of elegance ! There are so many different options when it comes to the knobs, but here are the ones I went with!

After

I am loving the way my vintage dining room buffet turned TV armoire turned out!  Stay tuned for Part 2 on this post as I’m thinking I want to try using a rose gold leafing on this one!  It doesn’t seem totally finished to me! What do you think?
