I was so excited to plan my son’s First Birthday Party! I always suggest picking a theme. This helps set the stage for your decorating and makes the look cohesive.
I always suggest starting with https://www.pinterest.ca/ . I always make a Board for the party I am planning. Then I start pinning ideas to the Board and before I know it, my Board is filled with amazing ideas for the cake, decor, birthday outfits and the food. Its always nice to see what others have done with their parties as well.
We opted to have family and a couple of friends so that meant we could have his party in our home. A great money saver if you ask me! As the birthdays progress and it becomes more about friends, we will have his parties in venues.
I found this amazing Mr Onederful Birthday themed canvas backdrop on Amazon. It was a nice large size and great quality for a very reasonable price. Absolutely worth picking it up!
Most of the decorations I was able to find at Party City and for some items I couldn’t find, I went to Amazon. I found the best decorations bundle on Amazon HERE. It included most of what I needed for the decorations. It included balloons, banner, cake topper, baby crown and paper fans. Its always such an amazing deal when purchasing a bundle!
I found the cutest party set on Amazon that included the paper plates, napkins, and adorable paper cups!
I was able to find the plastic table cloths, plastic cutlery, the gold number 1, the gold initial “N” and the ONE decoration were all found at Party City.
For the guest favors, I had the ETSY file I purchased, sent to my printers and they printed out the chocolate bar wrappers on shiny paper. I purchased Hershey Bars from Walmart and hot glued the wrappers to the candy bars. They turned out so adorable!
I purchased these over sized pillow boxes on Amazon HERE. I probably didn’t need them but I thought they were so adorable and of course fit the theme. I put the candy bars inside the boxes and placed them at each table setting.
I had so much fun making the centrepieces. I simply used mason jars and painted them a gold color. Then I used Mod Podge to coat the jar and layered on gold glitter. I also used some hair spray to “set” the glitter so the glitter would not just fall off the jar. I hot glued ribbon to the jar. Cut out a bunch of bow ties and moustaches on my Cricut LINK. I also purchased the gold number 1 from Party City and hot glued moustaches to the numbers.
I had some professional photos done of my son and wanted to showcase one of the photos at the party. I sent one of the photos to the printers and had them blow it up to make a nice collage for above the cake table. I also added balloons from Party City and some decorative fans that were also part of his theme.
I always love to do a dessert table and for this party, I organized it on the buffet. I had his cake and matching cookies prepared by my baker; which turned out absolutely amazing ! I always like to do a bit of baking myself and I usually bake and frost the cupcakes myself. I always add the small cake plates and small napkins to this set up as well.
The lady I had hired to make my son’s cake did an absolutely amazing job. I always suggest going on Pinterest and screen shotting ideas of cakes you like to send to your cake baker as inspiration photos. This is exactly what I did in this case and it paid off as my baker was able to make a beautiful replica.
I always try to re purpose items I already have on hand. I used all 3 of my cake servers I had used for our wedding. They went perfect for his theme. I had the cake lady make a matching set of themed decorative sugar cookies and they turned out amazing! I had them personalized with my son’s name for an extra touch.
I absolutely love to bake but when I’m planning an event, time is hard to come by! I love to bake cupcakes for my parties and even if no one eats them, I love them for the decorative elements. I always make sure I have some cupcake toppers purchased or printed out. I chose to go to Etsy to purchase a digital party package. I downloaded the cupcake toppers, printed them on heavy cardstock, cut them out and glued them to a stick for each cupcake.
I wanted a cute little “smash cake” for baby only and I ended up finding the inspiration for this little cake on Pinterest as well. My amazing baker made the little cake topper out of cardstock as well.
The cute crown hat and the amazing high chair banner I purchased on Amazon and you can find it HERE.
We utilized our Kitchen Island for a second table for seating and for food. I set all of the tables the same way to make a cohesive look!
I also utilized a 3rd table which was a round table we had on hand to sit another 4 people.
I also had my printers make water bottle labels for the water. I purchased the ETSY digital file and had it sent to my printers. I just love that it adds an extra special decorative touch to the table.
I also purchased gold straws from the Dollar Tree and hot glued moustaches to them. They were adorable. The paper cups I purchased from Amazon.
I also made new napkins ! Yes I did! I bought small cocktail napkins from the Dollar Tree and I designed the SVG file with my Cricut software. I cut out the design on Gold heat transfer vinyl and used my hair straightener to adhere the vinyl to the napkins. You want to be quick when using the hair straightener. I love the way they turned out !
I also purchased a digital personalized “welcome sign” from ETSY and then printed it out on heavy cardstock and put it in a frame. The gold letter I got from Party City. I made this table into the gifts table !
I also love to have a helium balloon bouquet I like to set in the corner. I tied the bouquet to the Milestone Board and added a large gold number 1, I purchased from Party City.
I also purchased a Mr Onederful Birthday theme digital file for the Milestone Board on ETSY!
What is a First Birthday without a piñata! I purchased the piñata from Party City and all of the candies from the Dollar Tree. So much cheaper to buy all the candy at the dollar store!
As far as outfits go, I purchased both of his outfits with a Mr Onderful Birthday theme. I purchased two of them. This outfit he wore for the party and I found it here on Amazon. I also couldn’t resist buying baby Converse shoes as well! They were so adorable!
If you are wondering about my outfit, I purchased it off Amazon HERE; I was looking to match the “theme” as well and I asked everyone who came to the party to wear black! It was so fun!
The cute crown hat and the amazing high chair banner I purchased HERE on Amazon!
Here is my little man smashing his cake for his First Birthday photos! I bought some of the pieces of his outfit on Amazon; it included the satin bow, suspenders and diaper cover. I added the shirt I made with my Cricut ! I hope I have inspired you if you are planning a Mr Onederful Birthday theme. Please do not hesitate to post your photos ! I would love to see!
